Certificate in American Architectural History

This certificate program will provide a focused program of study in various areas of the history of American architecture, combining a general survey of American architecture with specialized studies. The program will require a minimum of 12 semester hours of Architecture History courses. All students receiving a certificate in American Architectural History are required to take Arch 2112: History of Architecture II - 1750 to Present; and Arch 4124: American Architecture. Architecture students are required to take three courses from the list below. Non-architecture students are required to take two courses from the list below. Courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis, and a grade of C or better must be received in order to obtain course credit toward the certificate.

  • Arch 4117: Architecture of Arts & Crafts Movement - 3 hours
  • Arch 4118: American Academic Architecture - 3 hours
  • Arch 4119: Frank Lloyd Wright - 3 hours
  • Arch 4120: Atlanta Architecture - 3 hours
  • Arch 4821/2/3: Special Topics (with approval) - 3 hours

A Certificate in American Architectural History can be earned by Georgia Tech students upon completion of the above 12 semester hours of course work in Architecture courses as approved by the school chair. Students must also have satisfied the requirements for an undergraduate degree and be in good standing. Courses required by course name and number in a student’s program of study may not be credited by that student toward any certificate.

Certificate in European Design History

This certificate program is especially appropriate for students participating in the Paris Study Abroad Program and/or Italy Summer Program and recognizes the successful completion of a focused program of study in various areas of the history of European architecture. The program will require a minimum of 12 semester hours of Architecture History courses. All students receiving a certificate in European Design History are required to take Arch 2111: History of Architecture I - Ancient to 1750; and Arch 2112: History of Architecture II - 1750 to present. Architecture students are required to take four courses from the list below. Non-architecture students are required to take three courses from the list below. Courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis, and a grade of C or better must be received in order to obtain course credit toward the certificate.
