Georgia Tech Campus Transformation

GT Plaza Area(page 2)

During the Olympic Games the campus will be home to 15,000 temporary residents from 197 countries and 10.000 staff. The Olympic Village, with its own zip code (31190) will be Georgia's sixth-largest city. The transformation of Georgia Tech to accommodate the Olympic Village has been both an exciting and a daunting task. The student, faculty and staff have been adapting to a series of disruptions for the last three years, which just reached their peak during the last week when the armed security personal took over the campus. According to one staff member, who was frustrated with the barricades all over campus, "why didn't we let the University of Georgia let it have it all." The affected community has developed a sense of humor about the situation and refers to ACOG as Conspiracy for the Occupation of Georgia tech. But that is just one of the prices the Georgia Tech community has to pay for positioning itself well into the next century and for becoming the limelight of an historic event.

TramsThe Georgia Tech campus will not only receive world-wide exposure, it will also inherit an expanded facility including more than sufficient housing facilities and dormitories for the students. Where there was vacant land before, there are several new buildings that will house the Olympiad athletes now and Georgia Tech students in the years to follow.
