Designed to create and enhance quality permanent public spaces within
the Olympic Ring, the Public Spaces Program of the Corporation for Olympic
Development in Atlanta (CODA) will leave a legacy which is civic in nature.
The Public Spaces Program seeks to create spaces to enjoy, to commemorate
our unique heritage and to help bind us together as citizens of a city
which values its public environment. Great international cities are measured
in large part by the accessibility of their streets, parks and public spaces
to their citizens and visitors. In addition to meeting the specific requirements
of the Olympic Games in 1996 CODA seeks to leave behind public spaces which
are usable, safe, maintainable and memorable. The Public Spaces Program,
along with Neighborhood Revitalization in fifteen low density/ low income
neighborhoods within the Olympic Ring forms CODA's overall agenda prior
to the Olympic Games. Nearly half of CODA's 75 million dollar public spaces
investment occurs in these neighborhoods. Clara Axam, CODA President
