The Day The Wall Came Down

Horses Sculpture Veryl Goodnight, an artist from Santa Fe, captures the spirit of freedom in the masterly sculpted bronze horses. "The Day the Wall Came Down" was unveiled at Stone Mountain on June 3, 1996. It commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall by dipicting the passionate flight of four horses over the ruins of a broken wall. The artist's sensitivity to the ethical issues of human freedom is enhanced by the ability to capture the spirit of the wild and untamed origin of animals. At the same time, one cannot ignore the artist's understanding of the anatomical structure of horses. The artist has certainly captured the merger of mind and body in this artwork. The final destination of these fine bronze horses is the George Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University, where they will be moved in mid-1997.
