Alexander Memorial Coliseum

Bird's Eye photo of the Alexander Memorial Coliseum

The newly renovated Alexander Memorial Coliseum is located on the campus of Georgia Tech. It is historically known as "The Thrillerdome", since many memorable Georgia Tech basketball games have been played here. The most memorable was in 1993 when "The Thrillerdome" managed to fit 10,125 people in for the landmark game against Duke University. Officials kindly forgot that the maximum capacity of the coliseum is 10,026. Having seen many exciting games, it is appropriate that it is now the host of Olympic Boxing (7/20-8/4). Since its original construction in 1956, costing $1.6 million, it has been renovated 3 times, the latest being this year for $11 million dollars. The Alexander Memorial Stadium, full of exciting ghosts of the past, is in tip top condition for thrilling competitions in the future.
