The Georgia Dome

Photo of the Georgia Dome

Since 1994, the Georgia Dome has been the home to the Atlanta Falcons football team. It is located in the center of the Olympic Ring in beautiful downtown Atlanta. Hosting events, such as Super Bowl XXVIII and the Peach Bowl, the Dome will also be the home of three Olympic events: artistic gymnastics (7/20-7/25,7/28-7/30), basketball (7/20-8/4), and the final of men's team handball (8/4). In order to house these three events the indoor stadium will be divided into two segments, one containing a court like surface, the other a more gymnastic like surface.
The Dome, being the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world, is owned by the state of Georgia and managed by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Being such an enormous structure it will be able to seat 35,400 people in each of the three events. Since Parking is an important aspect of The Games, the Dome is well equipped with 17,000 parking spaces within walking distance. These include spaces for cars and buses, alike. Its location and size make it an easily located landmark in Atlanta.
